We first learned of Thomas Mastronardi in the nascent stage of Dandyism.net, spying him in a menswear magazine dressed impeccably. He later served as an example for Michael Mattis in his “Letter To A Young Dandy” essay.
Many years later we’re pleased to call him a colleague, and in fact have a dandyish project in development that, with a little luck, may someday see the light of day.
Tom is pictured here in a rendez-vous last week at Paul Stuart, where he serves as chief marketing officer. Boutonnieres, double-breasted waistcoats and watch chains are his trademarks. So is his dandy-dry humor. Marching across his crowded office to show us a lovely book, he caught his foot on a pile of camera equipment, which came down in a crash. Without slowing his stride nor even condescending to look over his shoulder, he simply let float in the air, with feigned interest, the words “Is it broken?” before sitting down to revel in the book’s glamorous imagery with us.
